Known Issues
Was mowing my property with no issue for about an hour. Turned it off and got off for a few minutes to move some stuff off the lawn. Wouldn’t start up again. When I turn the ignition it makes a buzzing/grinding sound. Indicator lights are both solid. Don’t think it’s the battery - I charged it for a few hours and the headlights/blinkers work. Changed the fuses also. There is no safety issue - mower is off, it’s in neutral, break is on. Plenty of gas. Any ideas? Thanks.
If you have a JD 2305 and up, hydrostatic drive, take notice of the hidden grease fitting. After noticing that the machine was vibrating a lot this is the culprit. The driveshaft between the crank and transmission has 2 u-joints. The rear is easily accessible. The front is not. The front joint you can’t see. There is nothing in the book about this joint. If you crawl under and look up between the oil pan and frame it’s kinda visible but you have to be looking specifically for it. It’s….shitty engineering. My u joint is shot. It’s worn the ears of the yoke down. It wore through the caps. This is a 700 dollar shaft. If you own a hydrostatic drive tractor, go find this shaft and grease it. I will fill the ears back in with my welder and machine them back into spec. The get the shaft out the floorboard has to come out. For me that meant knocking loose my Curtis cab. You can move the engine but I split the rear u joint. It’s getting both replaced anyway. It’s all doable for the standard diy farmer but it’s definitely a pain in the a$$. So, find it. Grease it. Check for slop. Fix before it costs you that money.
John Deere 2305 won't start
John Deere 2305 electrical issue.
Took over as a maintenance super for a apartment complex. They have a, for lack of a better word, "abused" tractor. It's got a mid mount 54" Edge deck just sitting next to it with the harness. My problem is that I can't get the attachments to lower down. Also the Cut length knob spins freely like it isn't connected at all. Contacted JD and they want thousands to fix and the company just can't do that. Any ideas?
